Abstract: Healthy aging is the optimal strategy for addressing population aging, and the issue of depression among the elderly is
critical to the progress of healthy aging. To explore the impact of cumulative ecological risk on depression risk among the elderly, this
study used the data from the China Family Panel Studies in 2016, 2018, and 2020, as well as the data from the 2016 China Statistical
Yearbook. A sample of 3, 182 individuals aged 60 and above was selected for regression analysis. The results show that cumulative
ecological risk has a positive predictive effect on the risk of depression among the elderly, and subjective well-being plays a mediating
role in the influence path. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the ecological risk factors in the external environment and improve the
well-being of the elderly so as to reduce the risk of depression in this population.
